Insta – Wear Roundup

Hello Friends!!!

This has been one crazy week with work, life, birthdays and Halloween events!!!! I am so glad it is almost Friday and we can waive October goodbye…. Trust me I LOVE October but it is one crazy busy month and the last month of quarter 3 at my job. Which means, I am swamped with reports, numbers, invoicing etc.  So I am just now catching up on my “weekly” #wiw outfits and work attire.

white top

Top: Forever 21 $18 – White Top

Scarf: H&M $10 – old

Jeans: J Crew $125 – Grey Jeans

So last week was still pretty warm in Dallas so I took advantage of wearing short sleeves as long as possible. I added the scarf to get my feel for fall and to have an accessory for the day. The jeans are grey and its hard to tell in the picture but they are super comfy and stretchy. I kind of live in them at the moment 🙂 (Yes I am that girl who wears a hair tie around her wrist lol )

Sweater: Arden B/Wet Seal – old

Jeans: JBrand $185 – Black Skinny Jeans

Shoes: Aldo $80 Sold Out – Attached a similar pair Brown Wedges

This sweater is older and from Arden B which has been bought out by Wet Seal. I used to live in Arden B every weekend…. It was finally in the 50’s one morning so I took advantage with one of my favorite sweaters. These JBrand jeans are amazing and have the best stretch to them for my muscular build. These shoes are sold out but I linked a similar pair from Aldo. I could live in this outfit everyday if the weather was normal in Dallas! 🙂

blue leopard

Top: Kohls $7

Jeans: H&M $30 – Blue Skinnies

Necklace: Kendra Scott $80 – Rayne in Black

Shoes: Steve Madden – old

I love anything leopard print and I am an avid Kohls shopper… mainly for the home section! But I do like to check out the 10 racks of women’s clothes on clearance for great deals like this top! I do not recall the brand but it was $7 and I could not pass it up! I paired my Kendra necklace and gold watch with a large Starbucks coffee!!!  These dark blue skinnies are from H&M and under $50!

Top: Lulu’s $31 – Hot Pink top

Skirt: Old Navy – sold out 🙁

Shoes: Target!

Meetings all day so had to dress the part for this #workattire inspired outfit. Of course its like -20 in our office so I was freezing all day but it was in the 70’s in Dallas also! Looks like someone wanted to be in the picture also… 🙂 Skirt was sold out when I checked online but Old Navy is having an awesome sale on all summer stuff! Top is from Lulu’s and goes with everything!

black and white

Top: JC Penneys $27 – Black and White Plaid

Boots: Dottie Couture $20 – Suede Boots

Yay for pumpkins!!!!! We can finally wear boots in Dallas (at least in the mornings) so I am taking advantage of the fall weather!!! Top is from JC Penneys and is long enough to pair with leggings… love this! Boots I got from the adorable Dottie Couture  boutique… Check them out if you have not already! Super cute stuff for amazing prices! I love the colors of fall and plaid together! It makes me so happy 🙂

Stay tuned for the Halloween costumes for next weeks post!

Geeking out my inner “Swiftie”

O. M. G!!!!!! That is all I can say about the Taylor Swift 1989 World Tour Concert! And I can check Taylor Swift Concert off my bucketlist!

I have always been a T-Swift fan, a #swiftie, but have never actually been to one of her concerts before. I honestly was not a huge fan of hers until the last couple of years with her more catchier jams. I honestly thought she was annoying, immature and just not my type of music to listen to. I am a country music fan but more the George Strait, Garth Brooks, Brooks & Dunn music. I do love me some Carrie Underwood too! And I really could not deal watching her accepting awards on all of the awards shows… You def know what I’m talking about lol 🙂

But…. I have to admit, she has grown up and has matured to an amazing young woman. In other words… she is pretty much AWESOME! I have much respect for her and her music. So when I heard she was coming to Dallas, I knew I had to get tickets because it was going to be amazing! Her thing for this tour was bringing a celebrity or singer on stage at every concert. She has had some pretty freaking awesome people as special guests at her shows so I knew she could not disappoint Dallas.

Got my concert outfit together the day before and was ready to get this party started! I was wanting something a little more shiny and flashy but I also wanted to be comfortable due to the parking & walking situation at Cowboys Stadium…. I went for a hippy/edgy look and LOVED it! Red leather shorts from Movida Boutique, long sleeve blouse from Forever 21 and the black furry vest is Betsy Johnson from JC Penneys!

We of course had some pre-concert drinks jamming to some T-Swift on the way. We knew parking sucks and just getting into the show was going to take up an hour of our time. I think the whole city of Dallas had the same idea… We got there about an hour in a half early but so did everyone else! lol We had pretty decent seats for Cowboys Stadium but I wanted to make sure we were close to the jumbo tron which is like the size of the floor 🙂

So best part of the whole concert…. You guys are NOT going to believe what happened to us…. We actually made friends with one of the ushers (remember we got there pretty early lol) and small world, he went to high school with one of the girls we were with. Soooooooooooo…… As the night is going on, we are just asking questions about Taylor and all the cool stuff he gets to see being an usher. About 30 minutes before she is scheduled to hit the stage, he mentions seeing her dressing room backstage the day before. Of course I freak out and want to know all the details and he proceeds to speak the words… “So do y’all wanna go backstage and check it out?!?” WWHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTT?????????? DDDUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a video of her dressing room on my phone that I am too sissy to post because of legal reasons but it was like the best thing EVER!!! It was the room that she goes to underneath the stage for quick wardrobe changes but it was like AMAZING! My day, dream, life was made!!!

Jennifer and I went back to the seats to watch her come out… I couldn’t miss this moment! I was getting anxious for her special guest to come on stage… I just knew it was going to be Beyonce! 🙂 About 3-4 songs in, she introduces someone who I love! Her music is awesome and she is just getting better and better with every song…. Her special guest for Dallas was ELLIE GOULDING!!! She was awesome and is super adorable…. I was not disappointed at all 🙂 I am so sad we never got a picture with the usher because he was a big part of making our night lol 🙂

So if you ever get the chance to see Taylor in concert…. GO!!! You just never know what it could lead to or who you could meet at a #taylorswift concert!

Swiftie for life,

Brittany 🙂

Versatile Blogger Award!

versatile award

Wait What?? I did not even know these existed let alone I just started blogging in September. But that is amazing and I will take it! 🙂 Another reason why I just decided to go for it and start a blog. It is amazing how so many bloggers support each other and encourage each other every day. The blogs I have come across in the last couple of months of doing this are simply amazing! I have also noticed my make up stash increasing along with my closet getting a little more colorful from all of the wonderful beauty/fashion recommendations I have read! 🙂 But hey that’s what blogging is about right?!?! 🙂 I want to thank Claire for the nomination…Check out her blog wanderingsofclaire 🙂

So the Versatile Blogger Award asked for 7 facts about me…. ENJOY! 🙂

  1. I am an only child. I’m sure you are thinking, oh spoiled, brat, lucky, weird etc. Well, I really wanted a brother or sister for about 4-5 years and then I realized that being an only child wasn’t that bad. My mom put me in dance at the age of 2 1/2 so that was pretty much my life until I graduated college!! I made lots of friends through dance and they are still in my life to this day. Lol Yes, I was very well taken care of as any child should be but my mom made sure I knew how to appreciate things. I had my first job at 15 and have worked ever since. So the thought of siblings started to go away around age 12. I was ok being an only child and consider my close friends like sisters. Who knows, I might meet some amazing bloggers that I can consider sisters one day! 🙂
  2. Speaking of dance, I have been a dancer my entire life and still teach dance to this day. I was on a studio competition team from the age of 2 until I graduated high school. It was something I absolutely loved doing and I have met sooooooo many people/friends along the way. The dance world is a crazy, competitive world but you learn so much about yourself and life. No, my mom was not a crazy dance mom lol – she was the “team mom” for several years but never made me do things I did not want to do. I knew I wanted to dance in college so I continued my dance career at the University of Cincinnati. They were 4 time National Hip Hop Champions at the time so I was like…..”Uhh DUH!” My parents were not particularly happy I was going to be moving 2000 miles away (remember I am an only child) but they knew my passion for dance, especially hip hop, and supported my decision to move to Cincy. And now the dance team is 8 time National Hip Hop Champs!!!!! Let me tell you, hands down best 4 years of my life! I met so many amazing people and still call everyone I danced with friends today! I still cant retire the dance world as I still teach hip hop at a local studio 🙂
  3. Since I had my son in 2011, I have pretty much become a crazy, ADD, OCD, organized, clean freak! I used to be that person who could just lay on the couch while there was a pile of dishes in the sink or the house being a mess but then everything changed! My husband will tell you that the roles have pretty much reversed in our house. He used to be very OCD about everything and now I like yell at him if there is a shoe on the floor! lol Having ADD makes you constantly need to be doing things but I think the OCD developed over the last couple of years. Getting things done and making them perfect – that is a fun combination especially with a 3 year old. It is like a fighting battle when I go around picking up his toys and 5 minutes later they are back on the floor along with 15 other toys! 🙂
  4. I am an avid runner! I love exercise and being active but I have always loved running. I ran in high school and continued through college. I ran my first half marathon about 3 years ago after I had my son. The motivation to lose the baby weight combined with the love of running helped me complete 13 miles. It was not easy and honestly on mile 8 I was like “Why did I sign up for this again?” but when you cross that finish line you have a sense of accomplishment that no one can ever take away from you. I encourage anyone who is questioning doing any kind of race to just go for it! There is no rule that you have to run the entire thing so walking is perfectly fine. It will actually start to inspire you to do more races down the road 🙂
  5. One fun little fact that I am super proud of that not a lot of people believe…. I had Perfect Attendance from Kindergarten through 12th grade! Yes! I can not take all of the credit for that because my mother is the one that kept me on my toes about being prompt and attentive everyday. Trust me, there were days where I did not want to go and it was a battle some mornings but she always said “Brittany, you can not break the streak you have going now…” That made me suck it up and just go no matter what. I am still that way when it comes to my job or other commitments. I show up… no matter what! 🙂
  6. I love me some soap operas and reality tv! I am an avid watcher of The Young and the Restless as I catch up with it everyday on DVR. I have been watching it since like 9th grade and no matter how many days I skip, I can always catch up with whats going on 🙂 It is an addiction I cant get rid of…. AND any reality tv show is probably on my DVR as well. I dont know what it is about good drama and watching people’s lives play out but my go-to shows are Real Housewives (all of them), Teen Mom, Project Runway, So You Think You Can Dance, The Bachelor and Dance Moms. I am also a huge college football fan! I could probably watch football over anything else sometimes but that is part to do with my dad raising me on sports! Go Irish! 🙂
  7. One fun fact about me and my family is we all share the some month of birthdays AND anniversaries AND Christmas!!! December is the lucky month of chaos where I run around like a crazy person, plan every birthday party and dinner almost every weekend, try to fit in our anniversary along with the craziness of Christmas! My bday is the 12th, Ridge the 14th, My husband the 18th, Christmas, our anniversary the 28th! Like What?!?!?! It pretty much flies by in the blink of an eye but I would trade any of it for a second!

Did you catch of all that? That was a lot of information at once! I hope you enjoyed learning about me and getting to know me a little bit more.

5k Training

Happy Tuesday!!

I am a little late with my 5K post due to the crazyness of work! Everyone always needs something on the same day… that is usually how my Monday’s go 🙂

I have been organizing a fun little activity for our office to do and I thought what better than doing a 5k run/walk. There is a Mavs Run This Town 5k this Thursday that we will all be participating in and I am so excited. I was a little skeptic at first since I do not know what kind of physical activity everyone in our office actually does but I was shocked when over half of the employees were interested in doing this. It could have been the after party in the beer garden or that you get a FREE ticket to a Mavericks game but hey Ill take it 🙂 I have done about ten 5k races so for me I saw this as an opportunity to get some exercise and maybe help a couple people along the way. I am still trying to talk myself into doing another half marathon but I am thinking of starting after the holidays!!

I found this 4 week training calendar on google about 3 years ago and I have always used this for races. I love running outside more than a treadmill so try and find places that are some what hilly for extra training. I do at least one treadmill workout a week at the gym for the incline purposes but I am definitely a fan of running outside 🙂

Here are a couple tips when it comes to training for any type of race that will come in handy.

  • Gear up. While those go-to kicks might be great for everyday wear, that doesn’t mean they’re right for distance running.  I am a fan of Saucony or Asics for running. They seem to last longer and protect your feet from blisters. It is always good to try multiple pairs on and run around the store in them if you can. On race day, wear lightweight clothing that covers your armpit areas and inner thighs. There is nothing worse than chafing while running. If it is a little chilly, wrap a jacket or long sleeve shirt around your waste and try and wear ear muffs to protect your ears.
  • Team up. Staying motivated can be tricky when flying solo. Grab a friend, neighbor, or join a running club for extra encouragement to go the distance.
  • Sign up. Sure, there are plenty of 5Ks to choose from, but when has procrastination ever really worked in our favor? It never hurts to sign up early and keep that eye on the prize!
  • Warm up. To stave off injury, stretching is a must before every run. Try walking lunges, straight leg marches (a.k.a. Frankensteins— yup, just as awesome as they sound!), and leg swings, which engage more of the body than static stretches .
  • Master the form. Some people don’t like running because it doesn’t always feel good for them. Making sure you have the correct form and proper technique will prevent injury and in the long run help your overall health. You will soon love the sport of running and in turn it will just get easier. Here are a couple running techniques to learn the proper fore-foot foot strike and the basic head-to-toe running form .
  • Cross-train. Variety is the spice of life— and a great way to keep from running in circles! Try mixing it up with a weekly team sport, weight lifting session, or kick-butt cycling class.
  • Listen to your body. Running isn’t always easy, but that doesn’t mean it should be painful. If anything feels like more than a 6 out of 10 on the pain scale, consider taking caution. Just remember that running is high impact exercise, so it’s natural to feel winded and for the body to ache and hurt a little bit. That should all eventually go away!

Remember, running can by fun and a great exercise for everyone. Be safe, be smart and most of all enjoy the ride 🙂

Happy Running!!

State Fair of Texas recap

If there is something that I look forward to every year besides Christmas, it is the State Fair of Texas!!! I have gone every year since I was a baby so growing up with a tradition like the fair is pretty close to my heart. When the weather starts getting cooler and college football starts I know the fair is around the corner too. I have taken my son the last 3 years and he absolutely LOVES it. The rides, the food, games, animals, dog shows and of course Big Tex! Personally, I look forward to the cotton candy (nothing like a big bag of sugar from the fair), fried food (tator twisters, fried oreos and fried cheesecake are delicious) and riding my favorite ride, the carousel. I haven ridden it every year since my first trip to the fair at the age of 3. So we decided to go on Monday, my son’s fair day (yes, Texas designates a day off from school to attend the fair lol ) but I think the rest of Texas actually had the same idea. I have never seen it so packed besides Texas/OU weekend…. and it was super hot! We luckily got there early enough to enjoy some time to eat and ride a couple rides without standing in line. It was only a matter of time after that when everyone started showing up and lines starting getting longer and longer…. But it was all worth it!

food booth

This booth is what we try to hit up first before the long lines for the bacon wrapped corny dog. I may die of a heart attach at a young age but every bite is worth it lol. The other thing that I try to get every year are the tator twisters… You cant find these anywhere else in America that have the right amount of grease and flavor topped off with a whole jug of ketchup! My son is a huge fan as he pretty much devoured them lol 🙂

And like every year, we have to get a Big Tex picture. He is the tradition of the State Fair of Texas. He talks to the crowd every 20 minutes so of course my son wanted to wait for him to do his traditional “Howdy folks, I’m Big Tex!!!” but he loves it so whatever he wants, he gets lol 🙂

big tex

Within minutes, my son wanted to ride the rides so we made our way to the Midway. This is where they have any and every game you could play along with hundreds of rides. And of course we had to do the traditional carousel ride 🙂

Watergun shoot…. I think my son played this game about 30 times (no joke) before they just gave him a bear lol…. We had to buy 3 rounds of points in order for him to play. He was in heaven and I think this made his whole trip 🙂

The ferris wheel is another state fair tradition but it costs about 30 coupons to ride (30 coupons=$18 dollars) It is one of those, been there done that type of rides but it is a must if you have never gone on it before. You can see the whole city of Dallas and it is the perfect light show at night.

ferris wheel

They have a farm animal building that we recently starting going to for Ridge. He loves animals almost as much as he loves his cars. From giraffes to goats to lamas, you can see pretty much every farm animal and you can also feed them. I was snapping a picture of the goats and this little guy was cheesing…. So cute 🙂

When it started getting super hot we decided to go ahead and do the car building. There is any and every car you could possibly want to see. It is all of the 2016 cars with access to take a seat inside and check out all of the features and gadgets. My husband, dad and son are in heaven the entire time…. I only go for the air conditioning 🙂

When we stepped outside to get more food, that was the moment we realized it is waaaaaaaayy to crowded and hot!!! We grabbed a water and decided to go ahead and call it a day. This is the view from the car show entrance that I thought was a perfect shot to end our day.

All in all we had a great time at the fair. If you are ever in Dallas and get a chance to go, I HIGHLY recommend it. There is nothing better than food, friends and FUN!

Have a fabulous weekend!

Brittany 🙂
