NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream

Firstly, let me say that NYX is one of my favorite drugstore makeup brands out there. Their prices are affordable and the quality of their products is just superb and often on par with high-end brands like MAC. I recently purchased the Soft Matte Lip Creams because of the great reviews I kept reading (I prefer matte products because of the staying power and the fact that less shine means fuller-looking lips). Sometimes I tend to forget the products I have and I keep rotating the same ones for a few weeks.

The NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams are not a lipstick or a gloss rather a matte formula. They are more of a lip gloss application but last several hours. They are amazingly soft on the lips. Packaging is simple and user friendly.

Yes! I was so curious, when I first applied this creamy concoction, how long I could go without replying. After breakfast, lunch and some coffee sipping, the color was there and it still looked pretty good!

What it is: Highly pigmented, matte lip cream
What it does: Creates various matte lip looks
How to use: Apply directly to lips, or over lipstick. Apply with lip liner to define outline of lips.

I do have a few of them but these are my favorites at the moment:

Sydney: NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream, which is a light pink shade great for a romantic look with a flowy summer dress.

Monte Carlo: Describing Monte Carlo as “deep cranberry red” is pretty accurate.  On my lips, it reminds me of rose petals.  It has a similar deep red color with a plush, velvety look.  I feel very retro-glam when wearing it!  It definitely gives a statement lip, but it’s not overly bright.  Plus, it’s matte.

Addis Ababa: is a bright blue based pink which looks almost fuchsia and very flattering against my complexion. One can tone down the intensity by blotting the shade using a tissue paper. Since the formula is creamy, you can always control how much you want on your lips, go easy and get a nice tinted effect.

I do have issues with some lipsticks that fade quickly and do not last all day. I am one to exfoliate my lips in the morning before I apply my makeup. Here are some tips to help keep your lippies lasting all day 🙂

  1. Exfoliate and moisturize your lips prior to application of the product.
  2. Re-moisturize every hour so that your lips will not chap and dry out.
  3. Use a lip brush for precise application.
  4. For hygienic purposes, instead of directly applying the product on your lips or on your cheeks, try scraping out the product first at the back of your hand then apply it to you lips/face with a brush or a cosmetic sponge. Usually multi-tasking makeup like lip tints tend to gather bacteria when we use the applicator on our lips. It’s a big no no to use the same applicator on our face. By using a sponge or brush, this will lessen the chances of bacteria to spread around our face and will also lessen the chances of breakouts.
  5. Instead of pumping the applicator to get some product, try to twirl it around the container. This lessens the chance of bacteria invading the inside part of the tube.

All in all, I simply cannot fault these lip products and would highly recommend them to anyone.

What are some of your favorite matte formulas? Do you use NYX products?

Fathers Day Gift Ideas

Fathers Day Gift Ideas

If there is any other holiday besides Christmas that I slightly stress about its Fathers Day. Men are probably the hardest people to shop for. They never have any gift ideas or can give you an idea of what they want. Anytime you ask them what they would like, the answer is always….. “I don’t need anything!”

Ummmmm ok!

My dad and husband are both very different so I came up with some gift ideas that are pretty broad. My dad loves golf and my husband loves outdoors and grooming stuff. I hope these give you some gift ideas for Fathers Day.

May Favorites

Better late than never…. It is time for May Favorites. I am sure you have read a hundred of these by now but I love reading about new products that people love.

Here are mine…. 🙂

Wet N Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder in Precious Petals

This highlighter from Wet N Wild was a super big staple this spring. It sold out pretty much everywhere pretty fast. I was lucky enough to snatch one from good ole Walmart. Being pretty fare skin, I stuck with the lighter shade, Precious in Pearls. I am all about champagne highlighters, and Precious Petals falls right into that category. This is probably one of the best drugstore highlighters ever made. If you happen to stumble upon it, GRAB IT.

Tarte Eyelash Curler

I needed a new eyelash curler and it was a toss-up between this one and Shu Umera’s version.  I ended up going with this one and I’m so glad I did.  I used one of these years ago and I forgot how much I love it!  I have a bad habit of pinching my eyelids with my eyelash curler and this eliminates that completely.  Plus it’s so comfortable in my hand and it fits my eye shape perfectly.

Free People Chambray Romper (sold out)

Obsessed! I have been really into chambray rompers/dresses lately and I recently purchased this one from Nordstrom. It is currently sold out. This one is similar and I love this one.

Calvin Klein REVEAL Perfume

CK fragrances are never middle of the road kind of scents – they’re statement-making perfumes and they’re sexy without exception. While Calvin Klein Reveal is all of the above, I also find it surprisingly more wearable than the other CK scents I know. I remember my mom used Obsession at one stage and I always found it very, very overwhelming. This, hands down, is one of the most unique fragrance that I’ve tried in a long time. To me the scent is very warm and comforting but I can definitely see how it is also uber sexy and provocative at the same time. Great summer time scent 🙂

Anastasia Brow Duo

Before I purchased this product, I was just using brown pencil to color in my brows. Now that I have had it for two months, I can definitely say that I love it! It works perfectly and does the job great. I still have over half of the product left. I love how you can get all the different shades, so when I dye my hair I can just get a different colour! I also think the price is fairly reasonable especially for the quality of the product. I would recommend this to anyone! #browsonfleek

Starbucks Acai Refresher w Coconut Milk

Everyone (AKA ME) are going crazy over this “pink drink” from Starbucks. Made with Starbucks’ Strawberry Acai Refresher with just a bit of caffeine taken from Green Coffee Extract, the pink drink is mixed with coconut milk (instead of water) to get a creamy beverage boasting a light shade of pink and chunks of strawberry. It is super tasty and is a little healthier than their infamous fraps and smoothies. Its perfect for summer!!! 🙂

What are some of your favorite things right now?

Fitness Friday: How to get rid of Cellulite

Dont worry…. We are fine down here! Just trying not to float away but good news.. its FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh and how could I forget its #NationalDonutDay

What a great way to tie in donuts with Fitness Friday! I am talking about a topic that I have been really thinking about lately. It could be the donuts or it could be age but it has been creeping up on me.

Ok Cellulite, its all something we have…and its all something we want to get rid of ASAP! Cellulite can be embarrassing and prevent us from showing off our legs in the warmer weather, and generally making us feel self conscious! It is something that i have struggled with for years, and only recently have started to notice a drop in my level of cellulite! I don’t know what it is about turning 30 but it seems EVERYTHING changes. I have noticed not only has my metabolism decreased but I am noticing more and more of the “hail damage” on the back of my legs. The word makes me cringe but it is reality. I guess it goes along with my hips not being the same after birthing a child. I will not have my college body back ever lol!! Since my sugar detox, I have noticed a change in the “hail damage” and I know it definitely has something to do with my diet. I’m going to share with you all my tips & tricks on how to see less of your cellulite!!

What is Cellulite

Because of how aggressive “cellulite” might sound to some people when they say it, it is often mistaken for a medical condition of sorts. However, there is nothing inherently unhealthy about having cellulite on your body, in fact, it’s normal for some of us. At its core, cellulite is simply fat that is beneath the skin, which causes a bumpy appearance as it pushes up on connective tissues. Although being overweight is not a direct cause of cellulite, losing weight can sometimes help to improve its appearance. Unfortunately, that is not enough for most people to completely remove cellulite as its appearance is largely genetic.

Firstly i want to emphasize that there is no “quick fix” that you are going to have to work and work damn hard to get results….but it IS possible!

1. Eat a clean, alkaline, unprocessed diet
In order to remove the toxins from your body, you must first draw them out from where they have accumulated in your cells, tissues and organs. The way to do this is to consume alkaline forming foods (meaning they leave an alkaline ash in the body). All fresh fruits and vegetables are alkaline and should make up the largest part of your diet. You might be thinking “can fresh fruits and vegetables really help me to reduce my cellulite?” Yes, they can! This is how it works: the alkalinity of these fresh, life force rich foods magnetizes to the acidic toxic matter in your cells, drawing it out so it can be removed from your body. The key is to gradually increase your fresh produce consumption (mostly vegetables) so that you don’t magnetize out more toxicity than the body can remove. Otherwise the toxins will just re-circulate and then re-settle. Baby steps and transition is vital, as is getting in tune with your own body and its signals so you know when to include more or when you are drawing out more toxicity than your body can handle. If you want to flood your body with alkalinity and minimize cellulite (and ageing and other symptoms) get into fresh vegetable juicing.

YES you WILL need to workout! Lowering your body fat% takes a lot of hard work and effort. (Remember men will always have less body fat then women, its just genetics. DAMN THEM!) But by starting and maintaining a regular routine, you will not only notice a drop in your cellulite, but you will lose weight, tone up, become stronger and fitter, have more energy and lead a happier healthier life! Try and focus of movements that get the blood flowing into those hard to reach areas- This will also give you amazing legs and butt!! Things like squats, lunges, bear crawls, deadlifts, skipping, rowing, running, leg raises, leg circle etc are fantastic!!

-Stretch legs, hamstrings & hips out well before doing this workout!
-Work at your own pace, challenge yourself but know your limitations!

Leg Circles: Center, Across body & Side
x10 reps at each position, each leg.
Foot Raised Kicks:Center, Across body & Side
x10 reps at each position, each leg.
Squats: Hold and Pulse at the bottom
x10 squats with x5 pulses
Lunges: Standard or Plyometic (Jumping)
x10 each leg (20 all up)
High Knee Running:
30seconds on 30secons rest x3 rounds
Booty Tap Running: (with your shoes…)
30seconds on 30secons rest x3 rounds
Tabata Wall Sit: Get at least parallel!
20 seconds work 10 seconds rest x8

Repeat this every second day or so, dont forget to incorporate other cardio exercises such as running, sprinting, skipping or rowing! Also switch it up so you keep things fresh and exciting! DONT FORGET to cool down and stretch afterwards!

3. Hydrate and flush
You need to drink enough pure, clean water and organic hydration from fresh fruits and vegetables to keep toxins flushing through you. Water is essential to life and it is also essential to reducing and preventing further cellulite. Just think about the effects/look of dehydration: shrivelled, lumpy, aged. This doesn’t make a cellulite free body with smooth, supple skin. Drink pure water every day as the first thing you consume. If you don’t like your water straight up, some lemon juice or lemon slices. Herbal tea is also great. As an avid coffee/tea drinker, I try to drink one cup a day versus 3-4 and drink extra water to help counter their dehydrating effects and acidity. Again, fresh vegetable juice is king.

4. Coffee for Cellulite – On Your Body, Not In Your Mouth.

Coffee in your mouth could be a cellulite culprit, but coffee on your body is definitely a cellulite buster. Doesn’t seem fair, does it? Let’s pretend I didn’t say anything about how drinking coffee could cause cellulite, mkay? Because never, ever, no never would I ask you to give up your coffee. However, here are two things you can do with it that don’t involve drinking.

  • Turn the Coffee into a Shower Scrub: After you’ve made your morning pot, place the grinds in a bowl and cover them with olive oil, sweet almond oil, grapeseed oil (or any kind of oil you’d like, really … just try to stick to cold-pressed and avoid ANYTHING that’s partially-hydrogenated). Stir the mixture and let it sit for a few minutes to allow the coffee time to infuse into the oil. In the shower, scrub your body with this mixture, focusing on the tricky dimply parts. Rinse well.
  • Kick Your Lotion Up a Notch with Coffee: Take some dry coffee grounds and toss them back into the grinder or food processor. Let them grind into a fine powder. Add this powder to your favorite lotion and apply to troublesome areas. This is best used at night or anytime you’re going to be home for a good block of time. Otherwise, the coffee might show on the fancy little white dress you chose to wear for date night. You’re so hot.

I am a big believer in “You get out what you put in!”

This is definitely part of getting older so there is no certainty that these will totally prevent cellulite but it sure can help. I will still have my Wine Wednesday and occasional beer on the weekends but sticking to a regular exercise routine has helped my body in a lot of ways. But for today, enjoy some donuts!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

Do you struggle with cellulite? What are some of your go-to remedies for maintaining a healthy lifestyle?

Have an awesome weekend!! 🙂

Swimsuit Season

Back from a long, holiday weekend and now I am hungry for summer. We had such great weather on Monday that we spent all day at the pool. I have not even thought about swimsuit shopping yet but I am totally ready now! If only it would stop raining in Texas so we can enjoy some sunshine!
I am loving all styles for this season, especially the one piece trends. With the fabrics and cuts of these suits, they are so flattering on anyone. I actually purchased the palm tree white and pink two piece (#15) yesterday and cant wait to try it on. I had to share some of my favorite styles for summer time. They are all linked below.
