Date night – The Lot

the lot

If you know me then you know that I like a good beer on a patio. Especially when the weather is in the 70’s and there is entertainment for my hyper active almost 4 year old child! I heard there was a restaurant that actually had a large patio, good food and a play area for kids so I got to have a date night with my two favorite guys. It is so hard to take our little boy to a restaurant without some sort of entertainment (ipad, tv, coloring books, phone etc) Sometimes I think to myself how did we survive being children and not being bored. We didn’t have a choice but to conversate and talk to each other ๐Ÿ™‚ These days its like unheard of to not have some sort of tech gadget with you wherever you go…. So I guess I have become that parent. BUT I will say his ipad is filled with educational games and puzzles so maybe I have not totally ruined him. Being a boy, he wants to play and constantly be outside so I knew the playground/sandbox area was going to be a hit.

We pulled up and it looked totally packed! Other parents must love a good beer and patio too…. ๐Ÿ™‚ The hostess told us it would be an hour wait for the patio. I knew I couldn’t wait an hour to eat so I just told my husband to put our name down and we will get some drinks and watch him play. (I really had an ulterior motive lol) My son immediately found the play area and was in total heaven! He was off to get dirty and put all of his non-stop energy to good use. And sure enough, momma found what she was looking for….. an empty table on the patio that no one was occupying. My husband asked the hostess if we could sit there and she said “if you would like but that is in the middle of where all the kids run around.” If there is alcohol being served, I can handle it ๐Ÿ™‚

We went ahead and ordered because the smell of the food that surrounded us was making me crazy. Cheese fries for me +ย burger for the hubby + grilled cheese for the toddler = Done! We are all set. My thoughts as the night went on and the beer was flowing: One beer deep, “This place is pretty cool.” Two beers deep, “This is the best place ever and the food is even better!” Three beers deep (my husband stopped since hes the driver), “We are coming here every weekend, forever!” My son was in heaven, great beer, great food and all on a patio! I was sold! I even mentioned to my husband about having my 30th birthday party here. They have a section with a live band, adult corn-hole and volleyball and there is a bar area inside with big screens. It is pretty much the whole she-bang for a great Saturday night!

This was my Saturday Date Night outfit:

sat night outfit

It was still hot enough to wear shorts but cool enough for some fall colors. This is probably the most comfortable kimino I own from Francesca’s. I am a boutique freak. That is pretty much where I shop because they each carry unique, trendy stuff that you wont find in department stores. The jean shorts are from Nordstroms but I did get my money’s worth out of these… I lived in them all summer. I also love seasonal beer especially Sam Adams – Oktoberfest! If you love craft beers then I highly recommend making this your beer for the fall. Stay tuned for more from The Lot and my closet ๐Ÿ™‚

Giving it another shot… Pure Barre round 2

pure barre 2

Well, I am alive!!! Barely walking today, every movement hurts, burns to go to the bathroom but…. I survived! Its amazing how being a runner and a dancer is a piece of cake but after a ONE hour class of Pure Barre I feel like I got ran over. I can definitely tell it is working. I was not as intimidated or nervous as the first class but since every class is different I was little anxious as to what we would be doing this round. I even bought the sticky socks they suggest you purchase so I am not sliding the whole time we are in a plank ( I highly recommend buying the socks – we will regret it )

I walked in like a veteran of Pure Barre with my leggings, pure barre socks and Lululemon top. Went to get my ball, band and weights and sat down ready to dominate this workout. Thought to myself, “I got this”…….. I had the same teacher thankfully so I didn’t have to look like an idiot to someone else. Got through the warm-up; piece of cake! We did some other things with the ball that I had not done before and now I could feel the burning throughout my body. Ok, here we go Brittany! Suck it up! I tell myself this a lot, especially when I am running. (When you are on a National Collegiate dance team for 5 years, you are pretty much told this on a daily basis ๐Ÿ™‚

About 30 minutes into class, I was back to where I felt last week… a shaking rookie! We did workouts totally different from the first class and some of them might have been harder. I now see why they switch it up every class – it keeps it exciting and challenging. We go to the barre as one of the last workout, sit on our burning bottoms and are instructed to wrap the band around the barre and hold on. Then we SLOWLY lift our legs to our faces. Being a dance teacher, this is something we do with our kids. It helps with flexibility and strength – so why did this feel so much different? When you are holding on to a band rather than a barre you are using your core rather than your seat to bring your legs up. Its the little things you do not think about that make a HUGE difference. I am pretty a dying worm by this time and ready for the cool down. I have worked off the oatmeal, smoothie, pretzels and diet coke from the entire day and maybe more…. But I left there feeling amazing and ready for a shower! I think I might now be sucked into the Pure Barre world and will make this one of my weekly workouts. I am a runner, dance teacher and I like to workout at the gym so I don’t think I can do it more than once a week but hey you never know.. I could end up wanting to teach it ๐Ÿ™‚

Stay tuned for more workouts and classes as I continue to try new things.

October Bucket list

bucketlist

“Let’s start all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.” – F. Scott Fitzgerald

HAPPY OCTOBER!!! If you are like me, we have been waiting since last October for this day! I absolutely LOVE fall and everything that comes with it. Chilly weather, sweaters, scarves, yummy candles, football, pumpkins, candy and of course Halloween! Living in Dallas, it is hot 60% of the year so we will take any sort of breezy weather we can get. And its perfect running weather! I just now pulled out my blanket scarf because it was actually chilly this morning. I am such a planner and have OCD when it comes to being organized so I guess my anxiety has kicked in and I am making a bucket list for October. I love decorating, crafting, creating and planning so I have come with fun ideas to do with my family and friends. Of course if they want to… ๐Ÿ™‚ I really want to do all of these things and make it a great October!

  1. Visit a pumpkin patch
  2. Attend a football game and have a our own tailgate party
  3. Fair Day!!! Probably my favorite day of the season ๐Ÿ™‚
  4. Roast marshmallows over a bonfire
  5. Organize our closets! (Donating old clothes and pulling out fall clothes)
  6. Take our family pictures for Christmas
  7. Have a pumpkin carving contest
  8. Make a fall wreath
  9. Watch a classic Halloween movie (besides Hocus Pocus)
  10. Participate in a 5k or fun run!
  11. Decorate the house and porch for fall ( I have already started this and cant stop )
  12. Rake the yard and jump in a pile of leaves
  13. Build a fort and tell scary stories
  14. Try a new seasonal beer (I am obsessed with craft beer )
  15. Make fall crockpot meals
  16. Attend a new fall festival
  17. Make homemade chili Texas style ๐Ÿ™‚
  18. Find a sunflower farm and take pictures
  19. Buy a new berry colored lipstick
  20. Blog at least once a day! ๐Ÿ™‚

Did I miss anything? What are some things on your bucket list for October or even for Fall?

The purpose in sharing my goals is really simple: I want support and accountability. I also want to encourage other folks to set, share, and accomplish things they want to achieve and feel good about it. Itโ€™s so easy to get bogged down in the everyday chaos of life (where I am right now) and itโ€™s tough to get out (what Iโ€™m trying to do now). These are fun and realistic things that I always get really excited about but never end up following through with all of them. I will be posting about my bucket list as I check each thing off!

Fall Festive

colors

It was chilly in Dallas for the first time last week (only in the morning) so I decided why not go ahead and look the part for fall. I am obsessed with color but I also still love my black. This comfy shirt from Target actually has a lace cutout in the back. It will literally go with anything including any type of scarf ๐Ÿ™‚ I found these pants on sale at Old Navy for under $20. That is a steal! I have had these boots from Gap for a couple years now but they are my go to for any and every outfit. I waited for them to go on sale… I love me a good bargain honey!

Now if there is one thing you need to know about me it is that I am totally obsessed with Charming Charlies. If you do not know about Charming Charlies please come have a seat in my closet and I will tell you all about it. I am obsessed with idea that they set up everything by color or pattern. Turquoise section, black and gold section, purple section and so on with any and every color possible. Jewelry, accessories, purses, shoes, clothes and scarf heaven! This leopard print infinity scarf was $10 so I bought 5 in like every color! Like come on…. Its a fashionistas dream! If you are not a fan of Charming Charlies that is ok too we all have our own shopping favs. I spend a lot of my shopping time here so you will be seeing more awesome purchases very soon.

Happy Fall!

Pure Barre Rookie

pure barre

I am now a married woman and I know this is the time that you start to care less about your appearance because (well lets be honest) we dont need to. I lost 30 pounds for my wedding and I worked really hard to make this happen. So it is only normal to kind of “take a break” from the grusome gym time and sweaty sprints. But, I do not have good genetics or metabolism to just sit around and NOT exercise. I will gain weight. So I decided that I am sick of the same ole gym routine and I need something different. I heard some of the girls in my office talking about Pure Barre and how they love it. I googled the closest location and got all of the details and thought well why not try it out. I have been a dance my entire life, it cant be that bad. “I got this….” I teach dance and a strength and conditioning class, this cant be that bad.

The class I signed up for was on a Thursday night where they run the $10 class special. I did not know if I would like it so better save the money on dinner ๐Ÿ™‚ I walked in and everyone was super friendly not that intimidating type of atmosphere. The instructor told me to get weights, a mat and a double resistance band and have a seat. The class started and it seemed pretty chill (we are just stretching) and then she got into the weights. No big deal, I dont really feel a burn anyway thinking to myself “I lift more at the gym so I can do anything with 2 pound weights.” That is the moment I learned what exactly Pure Barre is about. The muscles you dont even know you have!!! Every workout focuses on small, tight motions that really target the trouble areas for women. Butt, thighs, hips, arm flappers, stomach and muffin top ๐Ÿ™‚ At least for me those are my trouble spots. I could do all of the workouts but it was how long we were doing them. Pretty soon everything was burning in every area of my body. “This is going to be a long 55 minutes “… I thought 5 minutes into class.

I wont go into every workout of the class but I will say, there are different exercises I would of never thought to try. One of the hip (muffin top) exercises was genius! Sitting with one leg crossed in front of you and the other crossed in the back, you squeeze your hip while trying to lift your back leg. You will feel your hip immediately start burning! The workout lasts about 2-3 minutes but feels like 10. I knew I would be sore in this area for days!! I am not really sweating which makes me feel a little better about my fitness but let me tell you I was shaking. We finish class with a good, long stretch to calming music. I am thinking to myself, I dont know if I want to try this again but in reality this is really what I need. I have an athletic, muscular, big-boned type of body and I really want to be leaner. I am a runner and I know my legs will never be a size 2 but I would like to really lean out my mid-section. I have heard this class can change your body. So, I have already signed up for Thursday night this week! I was also told that not every class is the same so that makes it even more interesting to see what else I will burn. Yes Pure Barre, you sold me ๐Ÿ™‚
