6 things I’ve Learned So Far… Birthday Edition

Happy Monday!!!

Since it’s my b-day (WHOOP WHOOP), I figured I’d compile a little list of some of the most important things I’ve learned thus far. There are so many things about my 20s that were incredible, and I learned so so so much. Cheers to this past year being one I’ll never forget! Toasting to 31 and making it another year to remember 🙂

So here’s what I got:

Honestly, this is number one for a reason. We’ve all been criticized at one time or another. You gotta do what you gotta do, & either way someone, somewhere will have something to say. Bloggers are always putting themselves out there so is always constant criticism. You gotta shake it off and always do what you love to do!

Ughhhh this is one of those things they need to teach in college. My tip…download a budgeting app on your phone or use the envelope system. Also, it’s okay to have a credit card. You may just have to learn the hard way like I did that it’s not free money to go shopping all the time :/

We’ve all been there. You are in a hurry getting Starbucks so you mouth off to the barista. The line at Target is a mile long so you complain to the manager and have “that moment.” You go off at the post office worker because your box is not the correct one… You know asshole moments! Being a bitch is nasty. Patience has become my very best friend, especially after having kids. Smile, be gracious, be kind, & be humble.

Don’t judge until you’ve walked in someone’s shoes. People assume they know everything about me because a lot of my life is documented through social media. I have had some folks say some pretty mean things without knowing anything about me. There will always be haters and I knew that coming into the blogging world. But don’t judge a book by its cover because you never know. Life online looks flawless, #blessed, & glamourous. Always be kind to everyone no matter the circumstance… Appreciate the small things 🙂

This is PROBABLY THE HARDEST THING EVER FOR ME. For years I would try to control the outcome of family drama, friendships, work, etc. This year I’ve realized that ‘it is, what it is’. Me trying to control the situation & change people into something they’re not is counterproductive & pointless. You can get what you can get, or you don’t. Life isn’t fair or unfair, unless you cultivate that— focus on moving forward & don’t worry about what other people are doing…remember as Bethenny Frankel said “stay in your own lane!”

I feel that mixing it up on your blog keeps things interesting and as a blogger and blog reader myself, I know I prefer reading blogs that cover an array of different topics. If you feel like your fashion or beauty blog is becoming a bit dull, why not introduce a new topic? People love newness and generally enjoy seeing people dipping their toes into unusual and interesting subjects. I’ve said this a million times before but you can blog about anything and everything. Whatever your interests are, you can make a blog out of it. Don’t be afraid to try something out for a while and if you feel like it hasn’t taken off, it’s okay to pull back from it – at least you gave it a go!

Obviously this is a list of things that I need to work on daily because I’m not perfect by any means & need daily reminders. Really, it just kind of helps to write these reminders down! I’m not preaching, just sharing…again, do what works for you!

Off to celebrate!! Now, lets pop the CHAMPS!!!! 🙂

5 Resolutions for 2016

happy new year

Wow! How has 2015 already come and gone?…. What a year it is has been! Looking back on this year and remembering everything I have already accomplished, I don’t know how next year could get better!

Highlights of 2016:

  1. Lost 20 pounds
  2. Married my best friend
  3. Got my dream job
  4. Started my blog
  5. Got a new car
  6. First trip to New York
  7. Signed on our first home

I mean WHAT?!?! I am so blessed and grateful for all of the opportunities I had this year. I think losing weight made me more determined and kept my drive alive. Getting married was one of the best days of my life. Getting my dream job showed me to never give up and always strive to be happy in your career. Starting my blog was probably the most courageous and bold thing I have done so far and I can not wait to continue blogging and documenting my journey through this wild ride!

So I am setting some goals and resolutions for 2016 that I REALLY want to make a lifestyle. It was tough to think about what I really want to achieve but turning 30 has taught me to live my life to the fullest! I had some growing up to do the last couple of years and getting married really showed me that its not just about me anymore, its about us and our family. So here are my top 5 goals for 2016:

  1. SLOW DOWN!!
    • I think this could be #1 for everyone. I am constantly go, go, go all the time and I never just stop and enjoy the moment. I think its normal to be in a rush sometimes especially if you are running late or trying to meet a deadline. But I have noticed that I am always rushing to get somewhere, clean, rushing around at work, driving, getting ready or running errands. I never just stop and savor the moment. I really want to work on this everyday!
  2. Pay off debt
    • Yes I have debt and I don’t care who knows it…. This has been with me since college. I went to school out of state for 5 years and I know this debt will haunt me forever! I make my monthly payments on time but just seems like I never get anywhere. I am making it a point to spend less and save more. That is what I have realized is the only way to really pay it off. I already got the lecture from the hubby to spend less since we are buying a house. I am hoping to make a huge difference in my debt this year.
  3. Listen more, argue less
    • Again, getting married has shown me that it is not about me anymore, its about us. I think its normal for couples to fight and argue every now and then but making an effort to really listen is what I need to work on. I always think I need to be right and that isn’t always the case. I am the one to run to the other room and ignore the situation if I don’t get my way. I need to stay and talk it out and not run away. My husband being 7 years older than me has shown me to mature and grow up and not to sweat the small stuff. It just isnt worth it. I am blessed to have him in my life and I know we can get through anything.
  4. Scrapbooking
    • This has been one of my passions for a long time. I have always been crafty and I love creating things. The last couple of years have been consumed with my son, working, teaching dance and just living life. I have not been able to really set aside time to scrapbook. I am going to make it a point to get back into it even when I just want to lay on the couch. Once I get going, I LOVE it! Reminiscing through pictures is one of my favorite things to do.
  5. Run 4 races this year
    • This is going to be a long term goal for 2016. I would ultimately love to do more than four but I am setting the goal for one each quarter. I am actually going to go ahead and sign up for all four at once so I don’t have any excuses to back out. I love being active and I am an avid runner so this is super important to me. I know making this a priority will make me a better runner and healthier overall.

Well there they are…. I am ready to tackle these and make 2016 the best year yet!

What are some of your new years resolutions/goals for 2016? What were the highlights of 2015?

Bestie Reunion… ATL!

Omg…. We are 3 days out from CHRISTMAS!!!! And I am no where close to being done shopping! But that’s nothing new for me… This happens every year! I am back from our girls weekend in Atlanta and officially OFF WORK for 2 weeks! But I think I might have eaten the entire state of Atlanta this weekend… :/

This was an all girls/birthday celebration weekend. We originally wanted to do Mexico or somewhere tropical but being so close to the holidays we knew we didn’t wanna break the bank and be left totally broke! One of my best friends lives in Atlanta now for work, my other best friend travels for work all the time, and my bff from college came from Cincy! The only time I am most happy in my life (other than being with my husband and child) is all of my best friends in the same place at the same time. We got to the ATL on Saturday and immediately started poppin bottles!!

After a couple glasses of champagne, we went to one of Atlanta’s finest… Canoe! It’s looks over a river and has the best salmon I’ve ever eaten. The chef is from Australia so everything was super fancy and perfect! I wanted to get my Beyonce on and find some good jams so we went to Graveyard Bar.

Not sure it was the right place for quick drinks BUT they definitely played all the jams. One of the girls bought a little too many tequila shots but I was too busy dancing to be found lol – they woke up not feeling too hot! Everyone but me was hungover lol… I guess I was Beyonceying too hard to worry about shots! I was STARVING so I drug everyone to brunch at another staple restaurant… Not Another Broken Egg Cafe! Best waffles and syrup!!

Now that our bellies were full, we needed to do some shopping. We headed to the Lennox Center mall. I was in heaven… This mall has EVERY store! Got some gifts for the fam and some sweet new kicks! I didn’t have much more room in my luggage so I had to buy an extra bag to carry it all home .. Whoops!

For dinner, we went to one of the BEST diners ever.. OK Cafe. It is a family owned, Southern diner that literally has the best mac n cheese you’ve ever touched. There was a 45 minute wait so we knew it had to be good! I had a food baby because I couldn’t stop eating…
We were all so full and tired we decided to take the party back to my friends apt. We played Christmas music, drank beer and had a dance party in the living room…
I think the best part of the trip was sleeping in til 11am both days. I know I sound like an old lady but my son is up by 7am EVERYDAY no matter what! This momma got more sleep this weekend than I have in 4 years. Being 30 has been awesome so far and I hope it continues being AMAZING in 2016!!
What are some of your favorite girl trips? Do you still have shopping to do for Christmas?

Birthday Weekend/Christmas Party

I dont know how I am still alive and breathing after this past weekend…. OMG!!! Going on my third cup of coffee bc well… its Monday!

Turning 30 was amazing, our company Christmas party was a success and my son turned 4 TODAY!!!! It was a struggle getting up this morning and going back to work but looking back on the celebrations, I am so blessed! My mom, husband and one of my best friends surprised me with dinner at Jake’s (best hamburgers EVER) and then we celebrated at one of my favorite bars afterwards.

It was a blast and I am pretty sure I drank the entire bar…. My actual birthday was Saturday so I woke up not feeling too well. Needed some greasy breakfast and a large coffee!!! We had our company Christmas party that night that I was actually organizing so I had to pull myself together and get some energy from somewhere. It was an ugly sweater party and everyone looked awesome! I only got a couple pictures of my sweater as I was running around like crazy at the dinner making sure everything was perfect!

We all had a great time and everything went off without a hitch. (Thankfully!!) Waking up Sunday was a struggle… BUT it was my son’s 4th birthday party so momma didnt have time to be hungover or tired. AND it was a SUPERHERO party at that!!!! We had masks, capes, birthday cake, jumping on trampolines, bounce houses and all of the fun kid stuff!!! Everything for his party was PERFECT (thank god) and I could not have asked for a better celebration weekend!

I can not believe four years ago I was in labor and my whole world changed forever. Being a mommy is the greatest blessing ever and he is my obsession!

He crashed without mommy turning off his light or reading to him…. And mommy was shortly after him 🙂

I had these pictures taken for his invitations and I am totally obsessed!!!

Another year in the books for these amazing celebrations and we have my husbands birthday celebration Friday. I am going to Atlanta for a BFF girls trip this weekend…. I might need to take a day off just to recover!

I hope you had a fabulous weekend and a quiet Monday. What were the highlights of your weekend?

Brittany 🙂
