Off The Shoulder Boho Top

Happy Monday y’all!

I hope y’all had a great weekend! I was ready for a relaxing weekend since most of them are jam-packed with birthday parties and soccer. We were out shopping early Saturday and I got a call from our contractor that I needed to come to the office. One of our deliveries was completely wrong!!! I had to run all over town for furniture and other supplies needed to assemble stuff. We hired a team of techs to help us with everything and they were already there… It was a hot mess but we got it all worked out. Sunday was all about Ridge but much needed 🙂

Linking up with Glass of Glam for today’s post!  If there’s one piece of clothing you need to invest in for spring and one which will bring you through to summer – its an off-the-shoulder top.  I absolutely love this one  from Hazel & Olive Boutique. The length and fit is perfect for jeans or shorts. I am so obsessed with the tie-dye print on this top. The quality of their pieces is amazing and I am never disappointed. Their designs are always so on-trend and super affordable.

I paired it with one of my favorite new jeans for spring. These flairs are perfect for any outfit and are the perfect fit! They are currently under $15!! Of course I couldn’t go without this new floppy hat I snatched up for under $20! I have also been wearing this choker on repeat with everything lately!

What trends are you loving for Spring?

Girls Weekend + Wine Tour

Happy Friday Friends!!

Last weekend, I got to experience something a little different than normal. We had our first annual “Soccer Mom’s Weekend” which actually was more of a “stay-cation” for us. We all packed up our bags and drove about 45 minutes north to Grapevine, TX. We were about to experience a wine tour! When you think of wine, Texas is a state that you probably wouldn’t think of.  But it’s the fourth largest wine producing state.  And I do believe that my new favorite experience in the area is Grapevine Wine Tours.  It’s a fun wine tasting/meal event that gets you a flavor for the wineries located in the area and leaves you with a taste for more…

I’m no wine snob! I can’t tell the difference between a “nice” bottle of wine or wine from a box. I drink wine because I like it, and I choose my bottles based on the label as often as the contents. Clearly, I am no expert. So when the chance arose to not only try a bunch of different Texas wines, but also to learn a little bit about them, too…I was excited. This is right up my alley, folks.

Grapevine Wine Tours offers a four hour tour in both a lunch and dinner experience. Both of them include a shuttle to two wineries with tastings included and a restaurant where you get a three-course meal and additional wine tastings. The schedule changes all the time and for the Grapevine Wine Tours (the company also offers Dallas Wine Tours), you get to experience three of seven different locations.  All three places we stopped, Winewood Grill (Dinner), Homestead Winery and Messina Hof Winery were all amazing.

Our group (The Bad Moms- very fitting) started off at the Embassy Suites parking lot, where we boarded our shuttle and headed to WineWood Grill.

The first stop included dinner (thankfully before we start chugging all the wine).  I declare it a “must eat” destination for any foodie.  And naturally at this wine-focused restaurant we sampled three more delicious wines.

Homestead Winery

Our second stop was located in a (very) old house, Homestead Winery. It is full of not only delicious wine, but lots of character, too. You’ll love the charm this place has to offer. Here we got to try lots and lots of different wines, from (my personal favorite) a “jammie” Bois D’Arc to a spicy Malbec blend to a wine called Chocolate Rose (which tastes like chocolate and was divine). Not only were their wines fantastic, but they had also arranged their wide selection of reds and whites in order from dry to sweet. And we were literally able to go down the endless row of wines to find our favorites!

Messina Hof

The last winery of the day was Messina Hof, which is situated right off of Main Street, inside the replica of the Wallis Hotel from 1891.
The tasting was set up a little differently than our previous stops. We were each given four tokens to be used in exchange for a taste of a different wine. It was a little disappointing because we wanted to try everything, but we were still able to get a good idea of what their wines have to offer.

If you’re headed to North Texas and are a wine enthusiast, I encourage you to book a tour with Grapevine Wine Tours.  Of course if you’re local look into it as well, tours can be done with a minimum of just four people.  It’s a great thing to do for birthdays, bachelorette parties, girls night out or for team building or as a corporate event as well.

It was actually dark by the time we left the last winery!

After all this excitement, we decided to keep the fun going and head to Glass Cactus, a local dance club/bar. It has been a couple years since I had been and I knew it would be a blast.

It was definitely a blast, however, I might have broke it down a little too hard… I think I pulled something in my leg. I remember trying to “drop it like its hot” and felt my thighs start burning. I mean, when Beyonce comes on, you cant just stand there and dance like a white girl! You must attempt the single ladies video 🙂 Lets just say, I am STILL sore after a week!! But it was ALL worth it!!

The convenience of choosing to do a wine tasting experience with Grapevine Wine Tours is so worth it.  Included in the price of your tour ($79.50 for lunch, $89.50 for dinner) is roundtrip transportation from one of three Grapevine Hotels, wine tastings, your meal, and all taxes and gratuities at the facilities you visit.  The only extra expenses you will have is if you choose to purchase any wine at the wineries (And if you like one buy it.  These wines are not sold in retail locations in the area, just at the wineries) and a gratuity for your tour guide driver.  If all the tour guides are like the one we had, you’re in for a fun filled time and will learn a lot about wine production in Texas and the history of the city of Grapevine.

Have an awesome weekend friends!!

Ask Me Anything – Q&A

Hello Friends!  Happy Wednesday!!!

Thank you SO much for the questions you submitted to the Q & A bank. I don’t know about you, but I love a good Q&A. Those short, bite-sized interviews are always my favorite pieces to read in magazines or on blogs. I think I’ve got them all answered below. If I missed you, give a shout in the comments and I’ll answer it there!

How old are you?

Were starting off with a bang… 31! Ugh! I am having a hard time get past the whole turning 30!

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?

Check my e-mail and turn on the coffee maker.

What is your go-to cocktail?

I am typically a beer girl but I do love a great mimosa! I could pop champagne all day. If I had to choose a cocktail, it would be a yummy watermelon martini 🙂

Favorite online shopping site?

I would have to say Nordstrom is probably one of my favorites but I can always count on finding something from SheIn or Romwe.

When did you begin your blog and what made you decide to start one?

I started in September, 2015 and wish I would have done it sooner! I have a Journalism degree and read blogs all throughout college. I have always had a passion for fashion and apparel and I love getting inspiration from other amazing fashionistas! When I look back at my first three months of blogging, my general thought was “what was I thinking???” I didn’t really have a clue what I was doing (I still dont really know what I am doing) but thats ok. Writing has always been a great outlet for me, but blogging has given me a new kind of energy and enjoyment. Blogging has actually introduced me to some amazing people. Some of my followers became my friends, and many other bloggers that I have met along the way are my constant and best support. The network of people that you build will carry your blog.

How do you manage your time and stay so organized?

With patience, a great planner and a lot of determination! Every Sunday night, I write out my posts for the week and make sure everything is set. I write what post will go up when, any ideas I may have for the post, and jot down any random ideas I may have for the week for Instagram. For any random ideas, I write them in my notes on my phone. It’s the easiest and most accessible way for me to remember and, if I’m lying in bed at night and think of something, I can jot it down immediately! Usually at night is when most of my ideas come to me. But I’ll sometimes be walking around and thinking of something. The key is to always write down your ideas, keep a planner with everything for the week written out and plan your posts!

Any tips for newbie bloggers?

Don’t be discouraged when everything doesn’t happen at once. It takes time to build a readership, and nothing happens overnight (though it may seem like it for some people). Try not to compare yourself to other people, if you see someone else’s photography or Instagram that looks amazing, don’t feel bad about yours, take inspiration from it. On the other hand, don’t try and copy others so you lose what’s individual to your own blog. Every successful blog out there probably started off small and amateur so just keep persevering! Blogging takes hard work and dedication, but you need to remember why you began blogging in the first place. For fun!

Which spring trend are you most excited to wear?

I love the resurgence of ’70s-inspired pieces. Flares, bell sleeves, thick chokers, fringe and fur!! I think each decade had something special about it, but the ’70s definitely suits my bohemian spirit and free-flow style.

What’s your favorite part about blogging?

I have met the most incredible people on this journey – both bloggers and readers. Connecting with so many talented, smart, inspirational people across social media is definitely the best part about blogging. I have local blogger BFF’s that I would have never found without my blog, and I have worked with the amazing creatives and PR agencies! I also really love getting surprise emails from people no matter how random the message. 🙂

Where is your favorite place to shop?

Besides the wine store, I am always a sucker for boutiques!! Francesca’s & Target are probably my most visited stores!

Can you give us a little quick tutorial on your top-knot?

The top-knot is definitely my go-to hair style pretty much everyday. It gets easier the more you do it. The three things you need are a hair tie, bobby pins and hairspray.

Take a portion of your hair and put it in a ponytail. Make it as tight as possible. Tease the hair in the ponytail to make it a little thicker and fuller. Start wrapping the hair around the ponytail like you are making a bun… Pin down layers with bobby pins until it is all tucked in to make a loose-styled knot. Add a little bit of hairspray to help with the flyaways.

What are three things you use every single day?

My Kuerig (3x daily), Lipstick & Phone Charger

What is your favorite lip color/brand?

Lorac Alter Ego… Give me all the purple! 🙂

I hope you enjoyed this Q&A and please feel free to comment or shoot me an email with any other questions!

Sequins & Stripes

Sequins & Stripes

Happy (Holiday) Monday!!!

I hope you had a fabulous weekend. I am still recovering from a fun weekend with all the soccer moms! We visited a winery in Grapevine, TX and stayed at the Gaylord! There is an amazing bar at the hotel, Glass Cactus, and we tore up the dance floor. Being the youngest of the crew, I thought I could hit the town and be the last one standing… That was not the case! I guess I was breaking it down a little too hard and pulled something in my leg lol – that didn’t stop me from lifting drinks to my face….Thankfully, I have off today to relax and ice my muscle 🙂

I wanted to share a recent look I wore last weekend for our Galentine’s Night! I snagged this striped sequin top on clearance at Urban Outfitters before the holidays. Since it is more of a Spring/Summer top, I waited to bring it out! Since winter is on its way out (hopefully), I think its perfect to kick off the season with something fun and festive! I paired it with these distressed skinnies that are on sale right now for under $30!!! What I love most about this outfit is how simple yet chic it is. It is such a fun update to a regular ol’ striped shirt. I paired it with my favorite ankle strap heels that are super comfy! This bronze, tassel clutch was one of my finds from a recent visit to Macys Backstage.  This is 100% the look that I will be going for on our trip to Mexico in April… Fun and festive, but a little bit coastal, too.

I hope you have a great rest of your week babes! Are you enjoying this Monday off?

How I Fit Workouts into My Crazy Schedule

Happy Friday y’all!!

Yay for the weekend!! I am actually super excited for this weekend because Monday is a holiday and we are doing a fun mom’s “stay-cation” in Grapevine. We are doing a wine/dinner tour Saturday then of course hitting the town and just having fun!! Stay tuned to Instastories & Snapchat for all the festivites…

Today’s post is all about my love/hate relationship with working out!

Since last summer, I’ve slacked off the workout wagon. Well, I like to think of it less as falling off the workout wagon and more as jumping on the chinese delivery/french fries/ranch dressing goes on EVERYTHING wagon. This wagon is delicious, but this wagon is my downfall.

This past November, we booked our “official” Honeymoon Trip to Mexico!! Yes, we are finally going on our Honeymoon two years later… there is a back story but to sum it up briefly, I was that mom that couldn’t leave her kid for more than two days!!!! #separationanxiety

So right after the wedding, we celebrated in Shreveport (casino city) for a couple days! Classy 🙂

So, now that I have a goal ahead, I started getting my butt back in gear and preparing for the dreaded “bikini season“! With my crazy work schedule, a 5 year old, family time and blogging, its pretty challenging to fit in a workout! I told myself… NO MORE EXCUSES!!! I’m not focused on losing weight but more about toning and feeling good. Since I personally need a kick in the pants and since some of you have requested a workout post, I figured I’d  share my top tips on how to fit a workout into your busy schedule and how to actually stick to it.

One of the most cited reasons to skip a workout goes something like this: “I am just too busy at work today; I can’t make make it to the gym.” I call BS! If you unexpectedly had to pick up your child from school and had no back-up plan, how would you deal with the situation? Cancel an internal meeting? Take some work home with you? Do some hard prioritizing? The truth is that when we really need to, we get out of the office at the time that is necessary. Make a schedule, stick to it, and remind yourself that working out is a priority worth keeping. I am a big runner & I love a great 2 mile run! If I skip my run in the morning, I will pack a bag with running gear/headphones and take it to work on the days I plan to pick up Ridge. There is a neighborhood right next to his school that I will get a quick two mile run in before I pick him up two days a week. I HAVE to pack a bag so that I don’t have any excuse NOT to run!

Mornings can be rough with little ones. As a parent, I find this to be the best time to exercise, though. Pre-plan and prepare breakfast the night before. Wake up 30-minutes early and get a quick 20-30 minute workout done or run the neighborhood! The energy boost you get from exercising and becoming more fit will more make-up for the lost 30-minutes of snooze time, plus this allows more time for coffee!!! 🙂

Ideally, we’d all have time to workout for 90 minutes a day, five days a week. However, let’s face it. Ain’t. Nobody. Got. Time. If you know you have a super hectic week where you just can’t make your favorite 90 minute yoga classes, don’t forget that it isn’t all or nothing. There are easy 10-20 minute workouts that you can do anywhere.  If you can’t schedule those full-blown sweat sessions, still schedule 20 minutes at home where you do a simple circuit of sit-ups, lunges and push-ups, for example. In general, mixing up your workout routine is not only better for your body, but also better for your state of mind.  Personally, I can be a creature of habit and will sometimes end up doing the same workout class for weeks in a row.  However, after a few weeks I’ll burn out and all of a sudden feel bored of the routine, and eager to make excuses.  To prevent this, find a group of workouts that you enjoy, rotate them throughout the week, and don’t be afraid to periodically throw in a new workout class into your schedule.

By now you might be thinking, “I hate running!”—and that’s okay. We each need to be realistic and to know ourselves. One person’s running is another person’s yoga, weight training, or dance. Flexing your self-discipline muscles is often necessary when it comes to exercise, but make it easier on yourself by choosing a form of exercise that fits your lifestyle, personality, and taste. Not sure what you love to do? Don’t be afraid to experiment with different forms of exercise until you find what works best for you.

I spent the majority of the first 23 years of my life either at a dance/cheer event or en route to my next event. I was never big on what I used to call “cutesie” workout gear.  Admittedly, I used to roll my eyes a bit at the girls who show up to the gym in head-to-toe pink Lululemon matchy-matchiness.  I was always more of the girl who threw on a pair of old running shorts, a t-shirt and ran out the door.  However, after getting some amazing Nike gear for Christmas a few years ago, I was shocked at the enormous difference they made in my workout and immediately started hoarding them in troves.  For me, I am all about a good hoodie and some breathable leggings! I like to sweat… it makes me feel like I am getting a great workout!

Here are the 5 primary workout types that I do:

1. I’ve been a runner since I was young, and whether it’s on the treadmill or running my neighborhood, this is my cardio of choice.

2. Never skip LEG DAY! But for real, even missing one week of leg day I want to die the next day! I try to do it once a week with weight training and LOTS of squats!

3. I love spinning classes! Spin, Spin, Spin!!! Trust me, you will thank me later!

4. I LOVE barre method classes.

5. I keep 5-10 pound hand weights at my house so that on days when I don’t have time to get to the gym, I’m able to do some lunges, sit ups, and simple weight training at home on a yoga mat. My 5 yr old son loves joining in on the fun 🙂

Favorite Workouts

And of course, finishing a good workout with a yummy pick-me-up will keep you going all day!

What are some of your favorite workouts/classes?
