Spring?!?… Is that you girl?!?!
But for real, I’m not sure we will even have a Spring at this rate. I am longing for patio weather + perfect running temps! At least we have spring fashion to keep our hopes up that its coming! 🙂 (fingers crosses)
One of the hardest things to shop for during the warmer months is denim. Hourglass, ruler-shaped, inverted pomegranate — the number of ways that people describe women’s bodies is troubling and downright confusing. It’s hard to figure out which “category” you belong in and if you are anything like me, you belong in more than one.
I decided to come up with a guide to denim shopping using language we actually use when we talk about ourselves. So whether you want to to give your flat tush a boost, elongate your short legs or hide that muffin top, I have shared my suggested fit for every body type.
Muffin Top: Low-rise jeans will have you spilling all over the place, while high-rise jeans (also known on as high-waisted) will only exaggerate the problem. Your best friend is a pair of mid-rise jeans. They will suck it all in, in the most flattering way possible.
Big Butt: One of the biggest challenges women with ample behinds face is finding a pair of jeans that doesn’t gape in the waist. A high-waist can solve the problem because the fabric is designed to cover more than just your backside. And when you’re hitting the mall, avoid any denim with embellishments on the bum or pockets with flaps, as it will only make your rear appear bigger. Instead, go for smaller or angled pockets.
Flat Butt: Pockets are your friend. Especially ones with flaps, as they will add extra volume. Slit pockets will also do the trick, as they will you give you more curves back there.
Full Thighs: For girls with bigger thighs, flared and boot-cut jeans are the way to go. The extra volume below the knee will help balance you out, and if you opt for a dark wash, they will be extra slimming.
Short Legs: If you’re a shorty, ankle skimming-jeans work wonders to elongate your legs. You should also go for a more classic style, like skinny jeans or straight leg denim, as the slimmer fit won’t overwhelm your petite frame.
Long Legs: With legs for days, you can get away with a variety of cuts and colors. But there is always the issue of finding denim that is long enough. Look for any brand that carries jeans with extra long inseams (34” and up) so you don’t have that awkward gap between yours jeans and your shoes.
Short Torso: How low can you go? The lower the rise of your jeans, the longer your torso will appear.
Long Torso: The opposite goes for women with long torsos. You should go for high-rise or medium-rise jeans to make your natural waist appear higher, which will even out your proportions.
SKINNY / DISTRESSED
This has become my favorite pair of jeans in my closet. I am usually not a fan of high waist jeans but these hit in just the right places. Super comfy, stretchy and the busted knee distressing is perfect! They are true to size.
LEVI’S 711 MID-RISE, SKINNY JEANS – SIZE 6 (SHORT)
I think I am more shocked by the price tag on these jeans than how good they are… AND free shipping! If you are a mid-rise fan, these are some of the greatest mid rise, skinny jeans I have come across. They are not as thick as most Levi’s and super stretchy. Available in a million wash options and true to size.
ABERCROMBIE LOW RISE SKINNY JEANS – SIZE 8
Ive had these jeans for awhile and they are still as good as when I bought them. The wash is the perfect in between color and these are very stretchy. I would suggest sticking to your normal size as they do stretch out after wearing.
AMERICAN EAGLE MID-RISE JEGGING – SIZE 10
These are also from last season and still going strong. I wear them OFTEN! I will say they are a little stiffer than the recent jeans I have purchased but I know the newer versions of these are much more stretchy. Size up if you dont want them too snug.
SKINNY / WORK APPROPRIATE JEANS
OLD NAVY MID-RISE ANKLE JEANS – SIZE 6
I recently just purchased these ankle jeans and their so perfect for shorter gals. I love the fit and small distressing in the knee. These would still be appropriate for the work place. They fit true to size.
MADEWELL HIGH-RISE SKINNY JEANS – SIZE 29/8
These were a splurge for me BUT I have heard nothing but great things about Madewell Denim. They didnt disappoint… (sorry for this lighting) They are very sculping and really suck everything in. They do fit more of a mid-rise on my but still very comfortable. They are true to size or if you want a more snug fit, I would size down.
OLD NAVY MID-RISE SUPER SKINNY JEANS – SIZE 6
I am super impressed with these lighter wash, skinny jeans. Rockstar jeans have always been a go-to for me and these are so good. I love the striped down the side which I feel make them perfect for the workplace. I got the regular length and they fit true to size.
LEVI’S SKINNY BLACK JEANS – SIZE 6 (SHORT)
Another Amazon success!! These are also Levi’s and fit amazing. I wanted a pair of black non-distressed jeans that are a little dressier. They fit really great and the pricetag is once again, amazing! They are true to size.
LOFT CURVY FRAYED SKINNY JEANS – SIZE 6 (PETITE)
Another great option of white jeans for the workplace… and these are more of a curvy fit. The fray at the bottom is super cute. I personally prefer my jeans to be skinny to the ankle but these are still really cute. They are true to size and I am in the petite option.
LOFT HIGH-RISE SKINNY BUTTON JEANS – SIZE 29
As much as I love Loft jeans, these really exceeded my expectations! Sooooooo good and flattering! The button detail at the bottom just make it even better. They fit true to size and i am in the petite option!
FLARE / MOM JEANS
Another GREAT pair of denim…. these flare/bootcut jeans from H&M are so legit! The fit, the flare and the price are literally unbeatable! Only $20, these jeans have become my new favs. I sized up for more room in the hips.
OLD NAVY MID-RISE FLARE JEANS – SIZE 6
These are very similar to the H&M jeans and the wash is a lighter wash. They do run a little bigger in the legs and hips but still love the flare on these. They are true to size.
LOFT CURVY BOOTCUT JEANS – SIZE 29
Love the fit of these bootcut jeans but I do wish they were a little tighter throught the legs. They are mid rise and I am in the petite option. True to size but if you want them a little tighter I would size down.
AMERICAN EAGLE TOMGIRL JEANS – SIZE 6
If I am being honest, I really hesitate about the wider, really distressed jeans. I feel like my figure isnt made for these since I am shorter and wider build. BUT, I really love these. They aren’t too wide where they are uncomfortable and the distress is honestly so perfect. I highly recommend these to everyone of every shape!
After some thought and a little denim chat with some friends, I decided head over to Urban Outfitters to try on some try on some mom jeans/shorts. I see them everywhere on so many body types and everyone looks so good in them. I personally try to stick with my skinny jeans but these BDG brand mom jeans are actually super comfy. They are high waist , straight leg jeans but they really do fit great. They can be rolled up, worn with cropped tops or even bodysuits. They fit tighter than most jeans which I was told so I sized up one. This sweater is a little bit cropped and I love it paired with these.
BDG MOM DISTRESSED JEANS – SIZE 30
These fit pretty much the same as the previous one’s but they are very distressed. I am not sure I am a fan of the biggers holes in these since they dont really hold in my thick thighs. They are also a little longer lenth wise. They are also a high-waist jean but I really love the wash on these. Again, size up one. I really love this striped thermal tucked into these jeans.
LEVI’S MOM JEAN SHORTS – SIZE 29
i I have seen these jeans are so many people and they look really comfortable. They are high-waist, rolled up, light wash shorts that have been around forever. I actually really like them. Also, size up in these.
